Full Professor
During almost 40 years, I have been performing my research in the field of terrestrial plant Ecology. My initial research focused on nutrient cycling in dehesa ecosystems, including litter decomposition. Later on, I focused on plant ecophysiology, with nitrogen resorption as the main topic of my research. Gradually, I started to work on other aspects of plant ecophysiology, especially gas exchange, leaf phenology and demography, and the implications of leaf traits for the carbon balance integrated throughout leaf life. I am especially interested in the implications of the main leaf habits of Mediterranean tree species and the factors determining the competitive equilibrium between evergreen and deciduous species.
